If you are wondering how you can start composting, and don’t want to spend oodles of money on the plastic compost bins that you can find in stores, then just head to the rear of the store and pick up some of the palettes that the store uses. This is exactly what we did for our bins.
They are perfect for creating compost bins, because they allow for creating an enclosed space, while allowing air, water and sunlight in, which are they key factors when creating compost. All you need to do is screw or nail them together.
When we first started our garden, we would just through our compost material straight on the garden soil. This was primarily after everything was done growing, last fall before winter started. It didn’t exactly work the best, and I would not recommend doing this. If you pile up your compost in a bin, it allows for heat to build up within the material, which supercharges the composting process.
